Literature
Over the course of third quarter we will begin using literature circles to discuss literary elements in the stories we are reading in class. Students will learn how to lead a discussion of their own.
Studies show that students in 7th grade should read at least 100 minutes of independant reading a week. I have sent home a reading log which parents are to sign. These will be collected every Wednesday for a homework grade. They will also be choosing one independant reading book to present at the end of the quarter.
If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please email me.
God bless,
Mrs. Sadie Peterson

Classroom Policies & Procedures
• Independent reading: In addition to the literature we study in class, students will be responsible for independent reading. Students will be required to read 100 minutes per week. Books need to be approved by me beforehand. During the course of each quarter, students will choose one of their independant reading books to share with the class. NOTE: There may be a time when independent reading is assigned by the teacher. For example, I may split the class into two groups and have each group work on a different book.
• Tests/Quizzes: After every short story read in class, there will be a quiz. Quizzes consist of fifteen questions about the story. Story content, class discussion, literary terms and vocabulary highlighted in the text are all "fair game" when it comes to quizzes. Tests will be given after the Unit is completed. All tests and quiz grades must be signed and returned.
• Grading Policy: Grading will be completed on a points-base system. Homework is worth 5-10 points. Generally quizzes are worth 25 points and tests and essays are worth 50 - 100 points. Each student will be given a grade sheet and we will update it in class.

Homework
Homework policy: Homework is due the following class unless otherwise noted. Homework that is not complete will not be graded. If you don’t understand the homework, please email me or see me before school. Those who have band during class are responsible for turning in their homework the day it is due. Students may also give homework to another student to turn in; however, ultimately each student is responsible for turning in his/her work. Absentees must see their teacher immediately upon return if an extension is justified.
Students will not have written homework the night before a test or quiz. However, students should be doing independant reading for 100 minutes per week. Please see the new reading logs.
All homework must be turned in by the due date to receive full credit.
All homework must be completed by the start of class to receive full credit.
Late and incomplete assignments may be turned in the next day for half credit. However, you will not be reminded to do so. Homework turned in beyond the following day does not receive any credit. If it is not completed, I will stamp the homework book.
