There are so many fun ways to become involved in St. John the Evangelist School! HSA coordinates a number of on-going programs, described below, which require the support of parent volunteers. Resource Parents
Parent volunteers assist the teachers in developing field trips, in-class activities and in providing additional support to help enhance learning. The goal is to encourage all students, especially reluctant students, with innovative ways of learning class material.

Milk Duty
Count and distribute milk on trays for the primary and upper grades each lunch. There is a small remuneration for this effort.

SJE School Journal
Published by the School Advisory Board, this monthly, web-based publication provides insight into the philosophy and mission of the parish school through profiles, feature stories and personal essays. Volunteers are needed regularly to writers, interview and photograph.

Eagle Times
The Eagle Times is the school’s students’ newspaper. Parent volunteers are needed to
coordinate this effort.

Room Parents
This is a vital role in each class. Some of the duties of the room parent include organizing class parties, and creating a class roster with phone numbers (for a phone tree).

Lunch Parents
The lunch parent monitors the children in the classroom and outdoor recess. This is an important function because it allows the teachers to take a break and eat their lunches in the faculty room. Once you receive your calendar, please know that it is set for the year. If you need to make any changes please reach out within your class parents.

Used Uniform Boutique
Come to the Grand Opening of the Uniform Boutique located in the front of the gym. If you have any gently used uniform items to donate please contact Gina Natoli (301) 920-1710.

Library Aid
A library aid assists the school librarian by keeping the library clean, re-shelving books, assisting the children when needed and working at the Book Fair (held at the school).

Legislative Network
Create flyers, send e-mails and help organize legislative events to promote Catholic Education and text book/technological funding.
